MARCH 19 REHEARSAL

CONGRATS on a wonderful rehearsal in spite of the fact that everyone was exhausted, especially baseball boys and cheerleaders.  NO REHEARSAL TONIGHT      Rehearsal on stage in costume on Thursday.   I will ask Holly Robbins to take pictures. Public performance Sunday, March 25 at 3PM and Monday, March 26 at 7PM.

Lee
Sing LOUDER.
Could not understand the last lines of the play….. Louder  over the music.
Quinn and Dance Girl
Great job!   Full of energy and fun!
Music
Be sure that we can hear the actors over the music – especially Lee at the end.
Third (new) song – fade it in and make sure we can hear Rose.
With Rose’s line, money, money, money, we need the music – Detroit Moan to underscore the last “money.”
Lights
We need a light on the bank closing scene.
Music and Rose
We have to synchronize the buzzers, knocking with your new lines.  We will do that today.
Tony
A little slower and more horror stricken when speaking about Randolph.
Bar men
More horror stricken
Robertson
A little slower on the gesture to the audience at the beginning.
Soft shoe line – diction
& they started believing it themselves – diction
Facial reactions are good.
I need to see you nod or react in another way as you watch the scenes, especially the Edie/Lee scene.
Baum family and Robertson
At the end, Lee go to your mom and kiss her – put your arm on your dad’s shoulder. Robertson, command center stage – have an attitude of “oh well” with a smile and extend your hands out toward the audience.
EVERYONE – including crew
Great transitions
Freezes were good, but need more popping out at the opening.
Group dancers need a little more work  in the beginning.
Freezes were good in the Moe and Lee scene.
WE HAVE TO HAVE PEOPLE NOISES IN THE WELFARE SCENE SET UP AND TAKE DOWN.
Diana and old beggar woman (Rose) cannot be the only ones we hear.  You two were amazing!
In welfare scene, MAKE SURE we do not hear distinct words (disqualification). Diana – don’t say yeah – make it a mumble
YOU GUYS HAVE TO LOOK AT WHOEVER IS TALKING – WHOEVER IS THE FOCUS OF EACH SCENE.
WALK QUIETER
Wear all parts of your costume at each rehearsal. Contest is fast approaching and I want everyone comfortable in their costumes. This means watches, jewelry, gloves, hats, ties, etc.
Abbey and Savannah, freeze in the beginning.
We need people crossing in from both directions in the bank closing scene, the Calcutta scene. In the Calcutta scene, we have to have light!!!!  We also need people gathered around the lighted trash can.
If you have read this, text me about some part of the critique.
Moe
Can I have a quarter? – remember what Ms. K said to do – a slight pause.
Louder throughout, but especially at the bar and welfare scenes.
Take the hat off in the welfare scene and pull it back in all the other scenes. It casts a shadow. “He don’t believe in nothing”  needs to be louder and definite and make a point so that Ryan and Lee are taken aback.
You ain’t cryin – more of an attack or criticism, and speaking of criticism…..
I know this seems like criticism but you missed out on all the criticism in the early part of the season.   You have great intuitive feelings about Moe. I am beginning to see it in the beginning and in the welfare scene. Trust your gut and commit to your reactions. If they are not right, believe me, I will tell you.  & thanks again.
Lee and Rose
Bigger singing – especially Lee  --- Rose – absolutely loved you – got goose bumps again just typing this and remembering.
Doris
Cut a year – just say city college
At the beginning, pop out with more energy
Moe and Lee
Although it is depressing, keep your chins up so the audience will understand what you are saying.
Irene
Great job crying.
Quinn, Joey, Ryan
You have improved so much in the last week. You add so much energy to the show.
Fanny and Lucille
WE NEED FOR YOU TO MOVE THE BAUM”S HOUSE DURING THE BAR SCENE.
Sidney, Fanny, Doris, & young boy (CARSON)
Before the scene, right after Robertson says,” This is unquestionably the world record for the shortest presidency in corporate history. “
The boy comes out trying to get Doris’s attention when he crosses. He has a paper airplane that he throws upstage. She doesn’t pay him any attention and begins cross stitching. The scene begins.
Sidney & Doris
Scene was great!  But, we need that material on the bar for your scene to establish another set.
Edie
Be louder, especially when you say sometime, and on the other lines.  You are losing your accent.  Have Molly read your lines for you.
Lee and Edie
LOVE THIS SCENE now.   We need more time – a second more- when Lee cups your hip and  you react.
Irene and Doris
At the beginning, make sure that you are looking at Clarence and Robertson.
Lucille
The baby was saggy. You need a watch as Graham.
Fowler
SLOW DOWN.
Rose
Before Grandpa comes in during the bank scene, make your line louder.
Myrna
If there are chairs downstage center of the welfare scene, move them to upstage left. I will show you in class.

PUBLIC PERFORMANCE
SUNDAY, MARCH 25 AT 3:00
MONDAY, MARCH 26 AT 7PM

  1. The dance at the beginning DOES need work. I think it's important to have us all look look the same in technicality but to also look care free and to make it look like the dance wasn't planned.

  2. I agree. It does need to look synchronized.

  3. Got out to late to move the house, and switch the phones! I will make sure to get out on time to do it next rehearsal!

  4. I hate to take you out of the bar scene, but it is important that Lee sits at the table. Thanks, Hannah -A+
