Trivia and Critique for Thursday, February 3

This is from Hannah Almsted and is a great example of how I would like you to comment on the blog. It is not just saying "all right, ditto, etc.  It is about making a statement that will cause us to think and make our play better. It causes you to think and make connections to other key scenes in the play.  What other scenes are necessary to show the change and the effect of the Depression on OUR WORLD - The American Clock?  She also suggested looking at this website: http://www.rockinghammemories.net/19351939photosofunitedstates.html for pictures of that decade.

 

"Sorry! I just read the blog post about texting you our favorite scene! My favorite scene is probably the scene between Rose and Moe at the very end, I feel like that is one of those "moments" you were talking about. It is just a great moment in the play and it really shows a new ad very vulnerable side of Rose that we don't really see until that scene. I feel like that is one of the scenes that if we nail it people will truly understand our play and the meaning. I feel like its also a scene that could send us over the top and make the judges fall in love."

Critiques -

Irene	Good job talking to everyone in the welfare scene.  Be louder and don’t rush.
Kapush	Be louder and enunciate.  You truly make this character your own. It was difficult understanding the bank statement.
Dugan	Great job reacting – When Irene gives you the flyer, toss it down.  You hate Fascists
Ryan	Louder and make more of a change from Quinn.  Think mean spirited except when it comes to Kapush.
Bush	Great job.
Fanny	React to the fall.  We need all browns and blacks in that scene. So, no red dress.
Lucille	What are you wearing in that scene. It needs to be earth tones for everyone.
Lee	Super job being more serious and acerbic during welfare scene.
Lee and Edie	Stay in the light.
Women at Rose’s	Step on lines.  Fanny, go get lemonade. Lucille, you need to be louder.  Listen to Rose as she makes extra sounds.  Everyone needs her attitude.  Doris, practice looking in the mirror. Lower your voice.  You are about 18-19 at this point.
Grace	Voice and accent are not working. Do not look at Couch for approval.
Edie	Work on keeping accent consistent.
Lee and Edie	Cut out one pair of dialogue where you are so beautiful. How many times is this said?  That scene drug a little.
Ryan	Better on the accent – be more forceful.
EVERYONE	We need more strikers.  Change clothes faster.  These scenes will not work without people in them. Look at the timeline.  Wear different clothes according to the seasons. Lane is making a huge sacrifice coming to rehearsals. Lindsey, prepare to do the lights while he is gone.  The next few rehearsals, learn the light board. Next rehearsal – all cell phones in the box. Good job – lots of improvements. Everyone needs to thank our crew for their critiques.  WE HAVE TO IMPROVE EACH REHEARSAL.  WE CANNOT AFFORD TO WASTE ONE. SOME OF THE OTHER SCHOOLS ARE UPSET THAT WE ADVANCED, AND THEY ARE OUT FOR BLOOD. Text or comment on the blog, one thing you can do to improve the play. There was not much talking backstage.  That is a plus, but you need to be in your character backstage.  SECRET PALS (FOR THE MEN, THIS MEANS DO NOT TELL ANYONE) THE BAGS ARE TOO SMALL TO PUT ANYTHING BIG IN.  WE ALL NEED NOTES OF ENCOURAGEMENT, A PIECE OF GUM, A MINI CANDYBAR, ETC. DO SOMETHING EACH WEEK. IN MARCH, WE WILL CHANGE PEOPLE AND DO THE SAME THING IN APRIL AND MAY.
